Affordable Honeymoons
Where and when to travel for a well-priced honeymoon
Affordable honeymoons ARE possible. As mentioned on the affordable
honeymoon tips page, travelling off-the-beaten track or
slightly off-season can save you thousands.
What makes this a great way to save on your honeymon is that you don't have to stay a a skungy hotel or resort - you can stay in a luxurious resort at 20%-40% less than you would during high season or in one of the more expensive countires to visits.
Great off-the-beaten Track Locations That Make Saving Easy
No matter where you go, travelling off-the beaten track to some of the most beauitful, yet accesible places in the world can save your thousands. Here are just a few places that fit the bill.
Portugal
Portugal
is an amazing country with a unique cultural history, fabulous
natural wonders, and a lower price tag compared to many of the
other European countries - even though it's part of the EU, affordable
honeymoons are possible!
Some of the real gems in Portugal include Porto, the original home of Port Wine (any fans out there?), The Algarve (as in the picture to the lefft) and Lagos an exotic walled town in a really maginifcent setting.
Eastern Europe
Places
like Slovenia, Hungary and Croatia are some wonderful European
cities that are amazing to visit making an luxurious AND affordable
honeymoons possible.
We had our honeymoon in Slovenia and were surprised at how inexpensive it was compared Venice which we visited on a day trip. We paid the same amount to stay in a fantastic hotel literally right by the sea.
It was also interesting that we found the food (even spaghetti) less expensive and better than it was in Venice! We literally had a spaghetti lunch looking over the sea for $8 each then went to Venice that evening to see prices for one order was a whopping $20 - for pretty mediocre pasta to-boot!
Thailand
If
you have always loved the east, Thailand is a great option for
affordable honeymoons. Not only is it remarkable visually, but,
the people are also amazing.
If you are ok with doing a little leg-work, you will be able to find some romantic, off-the-beaten track locations that'll knock your socks off! If possible, visit neighboring Lao!
Save Off-season in the Hot Travel Spots
No matter where you go, traveling off-season will get you the best deals - but this is especially true for certain hot spots around the world.
Europe
Affordable
honeymoons in the best
European honeymoon destinations are possible, even at a discount!
The best times go are September and May. It isn't as warm as the summer, you'll get to avoid the crowds and your prices will be average - not as low as January, but certainly not as high as June or July.
Just make sure you pick the right country! If warmth is really important to you, visit the southern Mediterranean countries for best chance of balmy weather. Souther France, Spain and Italy are all great options! I have even been to Paris and Barcelona during these times and found the weather extremely pleasant! Northern Europe...not so much though!
The Caribbean
The
Caribbean consists of so many islands it's so hard to say which
one to go to, and when.
All I know for sure is that an island like Anguilla (and those nearby)is always expensive, because the weather is ALWAYS perfect, though there is a slight saving when traveling in Jan and Feb.
July to October is pretty much a no no for eastern Mexico and Caribbean islands (i.e. Bahamas, Cuba) who are in the throws of hurricane season betweent these dates. It's pretty save to go to islands like the Dominican, Cuba and , and St. Lucia from December to April. While islands in the Nortnern Caribbean can get quite chilly in December and January
Mexico
If
you want to go to Mexico go in February and June for best savings
and weather. The holidays and summer months are overpriced and
overstuffed with tourists!
Places like Playa del Carmen and Mayan Riviera offer year round fun, excellent food and a ton of different resorts and hotels to choose from.
Hawaii
The
best time to visit the Hawaiian islands for great weather and
savings is November and May/June. The hot season is just ramping
down, it isn't high-season, there are light winds, and the waves
are a good size - though not as big as you'd see in December
and January.
There is some rain in theses, but it won't last for days on end and given the size of an island like Oahu, you just need to drive 20 or 30 minutes to get away from it. Besides, you're on your honeymoon, is it so bad being roomed up for a day or two in your honeymoon suite?
